This display set contains the three coins issued for circulation in 1969, namely the old size: fifty pence, ten pence, and five pence. The coins are dated 1969 and are in Fine (or better) condition. Also incorporated is a set of three original unused, issued and dated 1969, British postage stamps commemorating famous anniversaries of 1969, namely: Ninepence = 10th anniversary of Europa and C.E.P.T. emblems, 1959 to 1969, Shilling = 50th anniversary of the International Labour Organisation, 1919 to 1969 and 1/6 = 20th anniversary of NATO, 1949 to 1969. Our manufacturing process is a precision laser cutting method to create holes in which the coins can be inserted: thus holding securely in position without harming them. Britain changed to decimal coinage on February 15th 1971 (the last pre-decimal coins were issued in 1967) but in 1969, as part of the preparation for the change, these decimal coins were issued. The new 5p coin was the same in shape and size to the existing Shilling coin and the new 10p coin was the same in shape and size to the Florin but the new 50p coin (equivalent to ten shillings) was the world’s first seven sided coin and replaced the existing ten shillings banknote (no other British coins were issued dated 1969). The item is new/mint and is housed in a quality, wooden picture frame with glass front.
